  About Stephen

Stephen Kamal was born in the Nuba Mountains, Sudan, and arrived in Australia in 2006 at the age of 16, seeking refuge from the war of Genocide and attrition in his homeland. After brief stays in Kakuma Refugee camp in Kenya and Uganda, he made a new life in Australia.

Professionally, Stephen holds a bachelor's degree in Information Systems from the Queensland University of Technology and serves as a Consultant at Deloitte’s Technology Strategy and Transformation services team, specializing in ServiceNow.

In addition to his professional endeavors, Stephen is the Founder and President of One In Four Children, a DGR registered Education and Capacity Building charity. This initiative was inspired by his own journey of self-reflection during a TEDxQUT talk.

Having experienced the transformative power of education as a former refugee, Stephen is committed to eradicating poverty through One In Four Children. The charity focuses on providing books to children and schools in East Africa and PNG, donating over 50,000 books to 35 school-based libraries since its launch in 2019.

Locally, the charity aims to deliver Education, Employment, Leadership, and Economic Empowerment programs to young people from CALD communities. Stephen's passion lies in using his knowledge and experience to enlighten, inspire, and motivate people, challenging perceptions of refugees and migrants while fostering positive change.
